Witkoff And Kushner Brought Updated Peace Proposals To Kyiv — FT

US presidential special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Ukrainian leaders in Kyiv to present updated peace proposals. However, the Financial Times reports that the new documents had only minor changes, having been revised to account for developments since February's start of the Middle East conflict. According to sources, the US envoys aimed to bridge the gaps between Kyiv and Moscow by revisiting earlier drafts.

Following discussions with Ukrainian representatives, it was agreed that the ongoing war is unlikely to conclude before winter. Witkoff and Kushner traveled to Kyiv on September 6 after visiting Moscow the previous day. They were welcomed at the railway station by Ukrainian officials, including Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Office of the President, and Rustem Umerov, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service.

The two were later escorted to St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, where they met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On X, Witkoff noted that significant progress had been made in arranging trilateral talks, as per a statement released by the US. Prior to the trip, Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a three-day no-strike policy to enable these talks.

European Commission foreign affairs spokesman Christian Wigand stated that the EU backs US efforts for peace in Ukraine, but sees no genuine Russian desire for a resolution. Following the meeting, Zelenskyy and the US envoys addressed the media.
