US Will Support NATO Countries Facing Hybrid Warfare — Whitaker

The United States has pledged to support NATO countries facing hybrid warfare, according to Matthew Whitaker, the Permanent Representative to NATO. In a recent interview, Whitaker stated that NATO members must not tolerate deliberate acts of hybrid warfare, and the US will provide support to those affected by such incidents. He specifically mentioned an attempted drone attack at the Leipzig/Halle airport in Germany last month, which Berlin attributes to Russia.

This event, along with other recent incidents involving Russian drones, has raised more concern among NATO members than previous occurrences.

Whitaker emphasized that NATO nations need to remain vigilant and prepared to respond to these hybrid actions. He stressed that when incidents are identified, such as in the case of Germany, the international community must unequivocally condemn them and signal that such behavior is not acceptable. Whitaker also warned that critical infrastructure facilities, including energy systems, could potentially become targets and should be monitored by authorities.

While he acknowledged that the primary responsibility for addressing these challenges lies at the national level, Whitaker highlighted that the United States offers support to countries facing hybrid warfare. He reiterated that NATO's stance remains unwavering, even in the face of Russia's hybrid attacks, which according to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, will not undermine the alliance's unity or compel a retreat from its support for Ukraine.
