Ukraine’s prosecutor general submits resignation after senior subordinate is accused of shielding fraudulent call centers

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has resigned, claiming it was a "deliberate political decision". Kravchenko, who has been in the role since June 2025, stated his resignation on Telegram, adding that he does not want the prosecutor general's position to be used as a tool in a political conflict.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) recently searched the Prosecutor General's Office. During the search, Serhiy Kropyva, deputy head of the office's International Cooperation Department, was accused of running a network that "provided cover for" fraudulent call centers. Kropyva was subsequently detained.

According to Kravchenko, he had previously mentioned he did not intend to resign over Kropyva's arrest. He stated, "I don't feel I should do that. There's a procedure: the Verkhovna Rada can vote, and the president can initiate the resignation. If they do so, I will, of course, comply."

Since becoming Ukraine's prosecutor general, Kravchenko has seen several senior officials lose their positions due to corruption scandals. These include former presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak, former deputy head of the presidential office Iryna Mudra - who is currently in custody, and former Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko.
