Three new iPhones launch this week, here’s what’s coming

Apple is set to unveil three new iPhone models during its September event this Wednesday, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will serve as successors to Apple's popular 17 Pro lineup, with the Pro model potentially starting at a higher price point, possibly around $1,199 or $1,249.

The third model, the iPhone Ultra, is rumored to be Apple's first foldable device, priced at a premium of $2,000 or more, establishing a new high-end tier in the market. Its unique foldable form factor is expected to feature a 5.4-inch outer display and a larger 7.8-inch inner display, resembling an iPad mini, and will be crafted from materials similar to the iPhone Air, such as a titanium border and a sleek design.

The foldable will house two rear cameras - a main and ultra-wide lens - along with two front-facing cameras, one for each display. It will rely on Touch ID for authentication instead of Face ID. The iPhone Ultra's software, running on iOS 27, will introduce innovative side-by-side app multitasking and adaptive landscape layouts tailored for the new form factor.

Under the hood, it will share the same A20 Pro chip as the Pro models, a vapor chamber for cooling, and a C2 modem, matching their performance levels. However, Apple is reportedly skipping the traditional early September launch of a new base model iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 in favor of pushing these models to early 2027. This move might be strategic or a necessity due to the ongoing memory crisis. As a result, this fall's new iPhone lineup will be exclusively high-end offerings.
