Tensions rise at GNAT hall as parents seek solutions to CSSPS challenges

Tensions are escalating at the GNAT Hall in Accra as concerned parents and candidates grapple with issues related to the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). The National Placement Resolution Centre at the GNAT Hall has seen a surge in visitors, all seeking solutions for placement problems, ranging from unsuccessful assignments to difficulties using the self-placement process. The bustling centre has become a hotbed of activity, with officials working tirelessly to address the multitude of concerns.

The current situation is further complicated by a shortage of placements for many students. Earlier, the Ministry of Education stated that 54,985 candidates who scored Grade 9 in either English Language or Mathematics during the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have not been excluded from Senior High School education.

These students are free to utilize the self-placement process to pick from schools with available spots. The CSSPS self-placement portal is now operational, giving candidates who did not receive their initial choices the chance to choose from vacant schools.

However, parents and candidates are being advised to consider a broad spectrum of schools and programs instead of concentrating solely on highly competitive institutions. Deputy Education Minister, Dr Clement Apaak, emphasized that candidates should select schools based on available vacancies, the programs offered, location, and their individual educational needs. The Ministry has also broadened placement opportunities by tapping into the private education sector.
