Tensions rise at GNAT hall as parents seek solutions to CSSPS challenges

Grievances are escalating at the GNAT Hall in Accra as parents and candidates grappling with issues related to the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) flood the premises in search of answers to their placement predicaments. The National Placement Resolution Centre, situated at the GNAT Hall, has witnessed a flood of parents and candidates seeking resolutions for a spectrum of problems, including failed placements and challenges in navigating the self-placement procedure.

The tense ambiance at the center intensifies as officials strive to cater to the multitude of individuals seeking explanations and remedies for their placement predicaments. This development transpires against a backdrop of apprehensions regarding the number of candidates who have thus far failed to secure placements in senior high schools.

The Ministry of Education has reaffirmed that 54,985 candidates who attained a Grade 9 in either English Language or Mathematics during the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) remain eligible for Senior High School education, provided they employ the self-placement process to choose from schools with available vacancies.

The CSSPS self-placement portal has now been launched, offering candidates who did not receive automatic placement from their initial preferences a chance to opt for available schools. However, parents and candidates are being urged to contemplate the entire spectrum of available schools and programs, rather than fixating solely on institutions with historically high demand.

Deputy Education Minister, Dr. Clement Apaak, emphasized that candidates should make their decisions based on available vacancies, program offerings, location, and their individual educational requirements. The Ministry has also broadened placement alternatives by utilizing capacity within the private education sector.
