Sudan rights coalition urges UN to disclose SAF’s foreign supporters

A Sudanese rights coalition has urged the UN Human Rights Council to disclose the foreign supporters of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in the ongoing civil war and to extend the mandate of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan. The coalition, launched last month by African human rights campaigners, argues that the UN should identify and name the countries and external entities backing the SAF and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by Gen Mohamed Dagalo.

The UN fact-finding mission has warned that foreign arms, military technology, fighters and logistical networks are fueling the conflict and enabling sophisticated attacks on civilians. The mission has found evidence of foreign-supplied combat drones and loitering munitions, which have enhanced the SAF's long-range strike capabilities.

Both sides have been accused of severe human rights violations, with recent reports revealing that the SAF used chemical weapons and built a secret stockpile. The coalition calls for an impartial investigation into all external support networks and urges the UN to approach the issue without bias or exceptions.
