Russian drones fly toward Kyiv amid temporary attack pause on capitals

Russian drones were spotted heading towards Kyiv on September 7, according to Ukrainian monitoring sources. A temporary agreement between Russia and Ukraine had been in place, preventing both nations from attacking each other's capital cities. On the day of the reported drone activity, Kyiv's City Military Administration issued a brief drone air raid alert.

However, no strikes or damage were reported in Kyiv itself at the time of the report. Nevertheless, Russian aggression did lead to property damage in the surrounding Kyiv Oblast, with a private residence and a vehicle destroyed in Brovary district, and a warehouse and factory damaged in Boryspil district. Despite the temporary pause, Russian forces did resume attacking other areas of Ukraine during the envoys' visit.

The agreement did not constitute a full ceasefire and Russia continued its attacks on various regions of Ukraine throughout the time of the U.S. envoys' visit, headed by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Prior to their visit, the envoys had engaged in peace talks in Moscow the previous day. Earlier on September 7, Kyiv authorities issued another air raid warning due to a missile threat, urging citizens to take immediate shelter.

This increase in drone and missile activity coincides with an escalation in Russian drone strikes in recent weeks, with fast jet-powered drones causing heightened alarm for both day and night air raid warnings.
