Singapore Red Cross steps up heat and haze support with air purifiers, support packs

Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is expanding its support for vulnerable groups in Singapore as heat and haze conditions worsen, according to the organization's spokesperson. The expanded response will provide air purifiers, support packs, and electricity bill assistance to up to 700 people, starting with 200 seniors aged 70 and above who live alone and are enrolled in SRC's HoME+ or Medical Chaperone & Transportation programs.

Additional 500 beneficiaries from other vulnerable groups will also receive care packs containing essential items such as coconut water, isotonic drinks, and basic hygiene essentials. The assistance aims to help vulnerable individuals stay hydrated, minimize outdoor activities, and follow health advisories issued by the National Environment Agency (NEA).

SRC staff and volunteers will be equipped with N95 masks when operating in areas affected by poor air quality. The expanded support builds on the efforts launched in April when volunteers distributed cooling towels, face masks, water tumblers, and portable fans to help vulnerable communities. SRC's secretary-general and CEO, Benjamin William, emphasized the importance of looking out for one another in the face of rising temperatures and deteriorating air quality.
