Sagar Spurious Liquor Tragedy: Jabalpur Excise Department Ban ‘Sagar Gold’ Liquor After 19 Die From Illicit Liquor In Sagar

In the aftermath of a tragic spurious liquor incident in Sagar district, the Jabalpur Excise Department has taken decisive action by imposing a complete ban on the sale of 'Sagar Gold' liquor across the district. The ban was issued on September 6 following the deaths of 19 individuals and the hospitalization of over 100 people due to allegedly consuming poisonous liquor. Assistant Excise Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Dubey issued the order following reports of the dangerous effects of the illicit liquor.

Considering the gravity of the situation, the department has prohibited the sale of 'Sagar Gold' at all liquor shops in Jabalpur, emphasizing the need to prioritize public health. The Morena Police Raid further exposed 84 litres of illicit liquor stored in a house, leading to the seizure of Sagar Gold stocks and their subsequent examination at a forensic science laboratory.

The Jabalpur Excise Department has instructed officials and excise sub-inspectors to ensure that 'Sagar Gold' does not find its way into shops under their jurisdiction. In the event of stocks related to the Sagar liquor tragedy being discovered, officials are required to seal and seize the liquor while sending samples for examination. The ban on 'Sagar Gold' will remain in effect until a report on the liquor's purity is received or further directions are issued by senior authorities.

The foreign liquor warehouse has also been directed not to supply 'Sagar Gold' to any licensee in Jabalpur until further notice. Liquor licensees have been warned against receiving the supply, and police have registered FIRs against around 30 suspects connected to the tragedy, arresting 10 individuals so far. The death toll has now reached 19, with 109 people hospitalized, including 85 at Bundelkhand Medical College and 12 in the ICU.
