Russia has enough resources to wage war through 2028, Ukraine intelligence chief warns

Ukrainian military intelligence chief Oleh Ivashchenko revealed on September 7 that Russia has ample resources to continue its conflict with Ukraine until 2028. The Ukrainian chief cited Russia's economic struggles, such as a shortage of labor, a widening federal budget deficit, and a strained banking system, as factors that bolster Russia's ability to sustain the war effort.

Ivashchenko emphasized the importance of international coordination in enforcing sanctions to cut off Russia's access to crucial resources like electronic components, machine tools, and specialized chemicals. He noted that over 60% of the Russian population no longer supports the war, a consequence of the deteriorating economic situation and heavy battlefield casualties, with average daily Russian losses ranging from 1,200 to 1,400 troops.

U.S. special envoy Jared Kushner, following discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European officials, stated that while ending the war by winter is uncertain, the U.S. is working towards conditions for a resolution. Kushner added that U.S. President Donald Trump aims for a lasting peace, not just an end to the conflict.
