Rasuah: Bekas perunding hartanah dipenjara 10 tahun, didenda RM228 juta

A former landowner, Amir Shariffuddin Abd Raub, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined nearly RM228 million after Malaysia's Appeal Court upheld his acquittal on corruption and money laundering charges. The three-judge panel, comprising Zaini Mazlan, Wong Kian Kheong, and Evrol Mariette Peters, ruled that the prosecution successfully proved their case through the evidence presented at trial.

Amir argued that the money he received was a consultancy fee, which the court dismissed, noting that his relationship with former Johor deputy chief minister Latif Bandi was relevant to proving his role as a seller of influence. The Deputy Prosecutor, Farah Ezlin Yusop Khan, later confirmed the appeal's decision to FMT. The court also issued a committal order for Amir to begin his prison sentence due to his previous release on bail.
