Qatar's leader insists the Strait of Hormuz will remain crucial to the global economy despite alternative routes being developed. Majed Al Ansari, an adviser to the Qatari Prime Minister, stated that the strait has been a trade route for centuries and no event will alter that. Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent predicted that oil exports might soon bypass the strait via land-based pipelines.

Al Ansari emphasized the significance of Qatar's exports beyond oil, such as petrochemicals, fertilizers, and helium for medical and technology applications. He added that it is impossible to imagine an economy without the Strait of Hormuz. The strait's importance was highlighted when Iran blocked it in retaliation for an attack, causing energy prices to spike and a global economic crisis.

Despite the difficulties, Qatar believes that rebuilding trust with Iran is necessary, though challenging. The region cannot afford to treat the breach as permanent, Al Ansari argued. As the conflict between the US and Iran continues, Qatar remains in contact with both parties but remains uncertain about a resolution, warning that the war is causing significant economic and security costs.

Qatar's role in facilitating the 14-point memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US has been met with disagreements over its implementation, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Al Ansari believes that dialogue is the only way out of regional crises, and the focus should be on whether the parties have the political will to reach a deal.
