Police deploy school protection squad in Ogun, urge vigilance

The Ogun State Police Command has dispatched officers from its School Protection Squad throughout the state as schools restart their academic year. The deployment aims to increase police presence near schools and safeguard students, teachers, and other personnel, according to the command. The squad will also secure school buildings, collect critical intelligence, and respond swiftly to any emerging security threats.

Oluseyi Babasuyi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, announced this in a statement on Monday. He explained that the deployment aligns with Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu's strategy of proactive, preventive, and community-focused policing. The command intends to strengthen visibility around schools, protect students, teachers, and school staff, safeguard school structures, gather vital intelligence, and respond promptly to emerging security threats.

Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, recently met with a delegation from the Police Community Relations Committee Safe School Club at the Ogun Police Command headquarters in Abeokuta. The meeting aimed to enhance collaboration between the police, school authorities, parents, students, and community stakeholders to identify, report, and prevent security threats within and around schools.

Ojajuni commended the initiative and reaffirmed the command's commitment to partnership. He urged the School Protection Squad to remain vigilant, maintain close communication with school communities, and respond promptly to credible security information. The command also urged the public to adopt the principle, "SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING," advising residents not to ignore suspicious activities around schools.
