Ogun police deploy protection squad as schools resume

Ogun State's public schools are set to reopen on Monday, and the local police force has taken a proactive step to ensure their safety. The State Police Command has introduced its School Protection Squad, a dedicated unit designed to enhance security around educational institutions. This deployment aims to increase police presence in schools, safeguard students and staff, maintain the integrity of school property, and respond swiftly to any potential threats.

During a recent meeting with the Police Community Relations Committee, Safe School Club, and other stakeholders, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni announced the deployment. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Inspector-General of Police's vision of proactive and community-focused policing. The School Protection Squad is tasked with remaining vigilant, collaborating closely with school communities, and reacting promptly to credible security intelligence.

Ojajuni urged all relevant parties, including school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, and students, to stay alert and report any suspicious activities around schools. He reiterated the importance of the "See something, say something" concept, stressing that early reporting can prevent security incidents. Furthermore, he encouraged residents to use the Gateway Shield Emergency Line to report any school-related emergencies.

The police command assured that, in partnership with the PCRC and other stakeholders, they are fully prepared to protect schools and thwart any threats across Ogun State.
