Nazirul Jasmi, a 33-year-old unemployed man, has been sentenced to four months in jail after pleading guilty to the charges of harassing a 36-year-old woman at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court. According to the charges, Nazirul was accused of causing fear by demanding RM200 to retrieve his mobile phone near the Melaka River, Kampung Morten, around 7:15 pm on September 1st.

The accusation was made based on Section 385 of the Penal Code, which prescribes a sentence of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both, if found guilty of the offense. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Syauqi Mardia Baharudin, while the defendant was not represented by a lawyer. On September 3rd, media reported that police had detained a local man suspected of involvement in a snatch theft incident in Kampung Morten, which went viral on social media platform Threads.

Chief Police of Melaka, Halim Abas, stated that based on the viral video footage, a male suspect was believed to have taken a woman's mobile phone by snatching it before claiming to help her retrieve it. He added that after the phone was found, the suspect was accused of demanding RM200 as "convenience money" before leaving the scene.
