Ondo: Amotekun Arrests 53 suspects, uncovers self-kidnapping plot

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has apprehended four individuals for their involvement in a self-kidnapping plot and the dissemination of false information on social media in the Akure North Local Government Area. Commander Adetunji Adeleye announced this on Monday during the public display of 53 suspects arrested for various crimes across the state.

According to Adeleye, the suspects were responsible for orchestrating a fake kidnapping incident and misleading both security forces and the public through fabricated reports on social media. Further investigation revealed that one of the people who reported the abduction was actually part of the scheme. The Amotekun commander cautioned residents against sharing unverified information that could cause public panic, emphasizing that the corps would continue to pursue and prosecute those involved in criminal deception.

The arrests were part of a larger operation that led to the capture of 53 suspects, who were charged with offenses such as kidnapping, murder, cultism, rape, cattle rustling, impersonation, theft, and conspiracy. Adeleye also informed that the corps apprehended 21 suspected illegal immigrants in Owo, stating that their actions were suspicious due to the lack of proper ECOWAS travel documents.

The suspects would be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation. Additionally, Amotekun agents disrupted a diesel theft syndicate that had been diverting petroleum products worth millions of naira from a construction firm and quarry site along Ondo Road in Akure. The commander reiterated the commitment of Amotekun to combating crime in Ondo State and urged residents to continue providing timely and accurate intelligence to security agencies.
