Nine reported killed in southern Lebanon as IDF retaliates for Hezbollah drone launches

On Monday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) retaliated against Hezbollah after the terrorist group launched two explosive drones at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. The IDF stated that the strikes began in response to the drone attacks, which occurred on the Ali Taher ridge. No IDF troops were injured during the drone launches.

The IDF also claimed that they targeted a weapons storage facility in several areas across southern Lebanon, following the drone strikes. However, Lebanese reports indicated that a building in Kfar Reman, where a large number of people were gathered, was struck and resulted in the death of nine people, including women and children, and 11 others were wounded.

The Associated Press reported that the vehicle in which two people were killed belonged to the Lebanese Scout and Rescue Association, Al-Risala, with one of the victims being a paramedic with the organization.

Prior to the strikes, the IDF took measures to minimize harm to uninvolved individuals, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance. However, the claim that several uninvolved individuals were harmed in the process is currently under review.

Following the drone attacks on Sunday, the IDF also reported eliminating several Hezbollah terrorists in the Nabatieh area. The IDF emphasized that they would not allow Hezbollah to harm Israeli civilians or IDF soldiers and would continue to operate to remove threats while remaining committed to the ceasefire agreement.

Residents in Kfar Reman expressed their frustration, with Fouad Chakroun stating that they lived under constant intimidation due to the bombardments on the outskirts of the village. The destruction of the building where families and children were staying was described as the "heart" of the village. Saleh Madlij sarcastically questioned whether missiles were present in the building, to which another resident replied, "I will not leave this place."

Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun warned that the attacks represented a "dangerous escalation" that threatened the ceasefire.
