New iOS Feature Allows One Phone Number on Two iPhones

Apple is introducing a new iPhone Handoff feature in iOS 27, announced during the WWDC 2026 keynote in June. This feature allows users to switch between two iPhones while maintaining the same phone number on either device. During setup, users can designate one iPhone as the main device and the other as the companion device. The primary eSIM remains on the main iPhone, while the companion device gets a separate companion eSIM, enabling the same phone number to be switched between the two devices.

Apple will handle all cellular settings from the main iPhone, and location sharing will follow the currently used iPhone with the phone number. For the feature to work, two iPhones running iOS 27 and carrier support are required. T-Mobile in the US and Deutsche Telekom in Germany are among the first carriers potentially supporting iPhone Handoff, though Apple has not provided a complete list of supported carriers.

After three months of beta testing, Apple is expected to release the update later this month, providing more details about supported carriers and device requirements closer to the public release.
