NDPC to track implementation of government’s new economy programme

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has been appointed to monitor and evaluate the execution of the government's new economy programme, according to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. During a meeting with the NDPC leadership on September 7, 2026, the minister emphasized the crucial role of the commission in the programme's implementation.

The NDPC will be responsible for tracking progress and assessing the status of the programme as it progresses. This assessment will be crucial as the government prepares to reveal the full details of the New Economy programme in the 2027 budget, scheduled for November. In his presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review, Dr. Forson outlined the government's commitment to transitioning from economic stabilization to increased production, job creation, and wealth generation.

The New Economy agenda, he stated, aims to create an economy that not only withstands shocks but also fosters job creation, wealth generation, and growth based on Ghana's own resources. The minister made it clear that economic stabilization is merely a prerequisite for the government's broader economic agenda, which focuses on transformative work that can improve lives on a large scale.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans for a US$10 billion investment in key sectors, with the 2027 budget set to provide the full details of the New Economy programme.
