NBC says broadcast not 'official arbiter' of game clock after Michigan Hail Mary

NBC's broadcast of Michigan's controversial win over Western Michigan on September 5 has revealed that the network's cameras are not the official arbiter of timekeeping within the game. During the game, the broadcast clock appeared to be out of sync with the Big Ten's official game clock, adding an extra second to the game clock which helped the Wolverines secure a 13-12 victory.

The official time of the game is kept by the Big Ten, and their replay center determined the final ruling. NBC's rules analyst Terry McAuley confirmed that the discrepancy was due to the clocks being out of sync, but it remains unclear how the broadcast and official clocks become out of sync.
