Ministry to pursue action against Thaicom, GULF

Abu Dhabi: Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, serving as the Prime Minister's advisor and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in a plenary session at the third Hili Forum 2026 on Monday. The forum, held in Abu Dhabi, focused on the theme "Gulf at Crossroads: Conflict, Consequences and Course Correction."

During the panel discussion on "Gulf Regional Security Complexes," Dr. Al Ansari addressed the impact of the current crisis in the Gulf region, emphasizing that its effects extend beyond the region itself. He highlighted the far-reaching consequences, including energy, commerce, maritime navigation, and international supply chains, underscoring the interconnectedness of the global economy.

Dr. Al Ansari noted that the war has tested the unity of the region's countries in confronting shared threats. He stressed the importance of transforming this recognition into concrete, collective action, rather than merely discussing the issue.

He further argued that the security of the Gulf is a shared responsibility, with all countries playing a crucial role in shaping any security arrangements for the region. Dr. Al Ansari warned against the dangers of weaponizing critical waterways for political gain, as this undermines effective deterrence and poses significant economic challenges to the global community.

The advisor cautioned against normalizing the current situation in the Gulf, treating it as a permanent reality rather than a temporary crisis. He stressed that the lack of international accountability for such violations erodes the international system of security and stability.

Dr. Al Ansari highlighted the fragility of the regional security structure, which relies heavily on deterrence and defense. He called for the development of a more resilient and enduring security system, built on the foundation of collective security, diplomacy, and strengthened collaborative efforts among Gulf nations. He also emphasized the importance of protecting critical supply chains and promoting economic interdependence among the region's countries.

Qatar's expertise in mediation and its efforts to promote dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution were acknowledged by Dr. Al Ansari. He emphasized that successful mediation depends on the political will of the parties involved and their shared interest in reaching a sustainable resolution.

Dr. Al Ansari stressed that dialogue does not mean aligning with any particular side, but rather serves as a powerful tool to prevent escalation, maintain communication channels, and find lasting solutions. He concluded by emphasizing the need for shared regional and international responsibility in addressing the challenges currently facing the Gulf region, as its consequences reverberate worldwide.
