Malaysia Airlines flight to Jeddah diverted to Chennai over suspected engine problem

Malaysia Airlines flight MH156, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah, was diverted to Chennai, India on Monday due to a suspected engine issue, according to Indian media reports. The Boeing aircraft, carrying 186 passengers, made an emergency landing at Chennai Airport, reported Bernama, citing a Times of India story. Upon landing, the plane was parked and passengers were provided with accommodation at the airport.

"There was a technical problem involving engine number two," an airport spokesperson informed PTI, adding that the airline and technical teams are conducting a thorough assessment of the aircraft and the issue. The Hindu quoted Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials, reporting that the flight had departed Kuala Lumpur at 3:30pm, and the pilot detected an engine malfunction, prompting the request to land at Chennai.
