KLIA becomes fallback for some Jakarta flights after Anak Krakatau eruption

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Malaysia has become a contingency airport for Jakarta-bound flights, following the eruption of Anak Krakatau in Indonesia. This disruption has caused civil aviation authorities in Malaysia to allow the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to serve as an alternative gateway for affected flights.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) chief executive officer, Norazman Mahmud, two flights destined for Jakarta have been diverted to KLIA so far. These flights include one originating from Oman and another from Saudi Arabia. Malaysia has permitted the airport to act as a fallback option for flights impacted by the volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau, which has forced the suspension of operations at eight airports in Indonesia, including the main international hub at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta.

Consequently, approximately 170,000 passengers have experienced flight cancellations as a result of this volcanic eruption.
