The head of a major drug syndicate, a chemist, was shot dead in Seremban 2 on Tuesday. Hussein Omar Khan, the head of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, confirmed that the suspect, a 52-year-old man, was the head of a drug syndicate with decades of experience in producing drugs. During a raid on a house in Garden Homes, Seremban 2 around 1:30 pm yesterday, a gunman opened fire at police, who had to return fire.

The suspect was later found unconscious and pronounced dead at the scene. It was discovered that the suspect had been involved in drug processing since the 90s and had three prior drug-related convictions, in addition to a criminal record for kidnapping, according to Bernama in a media briefing in Seremban. The house was reportedly used as a makeshift lab to process MDMA, with various chemicals estimated to be worth RM27.5 million and a revolver pistol stolen.

Among the stolen items were an estimated 64.49kg of MDMA solution, 5.2kg of MDMA powder, 104.8kg of MDMA pills, and various drug processing equipment. Two suspects, a 32-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, were arrested in raids at a Seremban 2 residential area and a condominium in Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur. The woman had 12 prior drug-related convictions, six of which were related to drugs, while the man had 10 convictions, including eight drug-related ones.

The syndicate, active since January, processed and distributed MDMA for local and international markets, and authorities believe the syndicate received support from other syndicate members to bring in foreign chemicals for drug production. Police also seized various assets worth RM98,000, bringing the total value of the haul to RM27.6 million.

The two local suspects were held for seven days until September 13 and are currently being interrogated under Section 307 of the Criminal Procedure Act and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
