Jaguar Land Rover to cut 4,000 jobs

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced plans to cut 4,000 jobs as the company grapples with "significant challenges" within the automobile industry. The primary impact of these job losses will be felt in the UK, where most of the workforce will be affected, particularly in non-production roles. JLR's chief executive, PB Balaji, explained in a recent statement that the automotive industry is facing intense competition, technological change, and geopolitical uncertainty.

The company has outlined a "Growth Reimagined" strategy that includes launching five new products, expanding into new markets such as North America, and cutting £1.7 billion in costs to bolster competitiveness. Over the next two years, JLR intends to reduce its global workforce by approximately 4,000 roles. The UK-based manufacturer, which employs 34,000 workers in the country, has faced numerous challenges since the COVID-19 pandemic, including surging energy costs, US trade tariffs, and the disruption caused by a cyber attack that halted production for five weeks.

JLR's revenue declined by nearly 10% in the April-June quarter compared to the same period in 2025, largely due to a shift in focus away from traditional diesel and petrol-powered vehicles towards electric-focused development. The company's results highlight the importance of its UK operations for the broader UK economy, as the closures of its production facilities in Solihull, Wolverhampton, Coventry, and Halewood have been cited as a significant contributor to economic growth.
