Israeli ministers call for sanctions on Britain over Falkland Islands

Israeli ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich have called for sanctions on Britain over the Falkland Islands, in response to the UK government's plan to ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory. Smotrich, the finance minister, demanded the expulsion of the British ambassador to Israel and threatened to trample the country's doormat.

Ben Gvir, the security minister, posted on X, calling for Israel to recognize the Falkland Islands as Argentine territory under occupation and to impose sanctions on Britain as long as the occupation continues. The British government is set to introduce a series of policies targeting Israeli settlements, including a trade ban, on Tuesday.

The Israeli government has threatened retaliation if Britain takes action against Israel. The US administration has strongly opposed Britain's approach.
