Israel army orders evacuation of zone in south Lebanon

The Israeli army has ordered the evacuation of residents from a designated area in southern Lebanon ahead of anticipated strikes against Iran-backed Hezbollah. The army cited an explosive drone launched towards its forces and Hezbollah's terrorist activities as justifications for the forceful action, although it did not disclose any potential casualties among its soldiers.

A message in Arabic warned the residents that the target was a Hezbollah terrorist facility and that anyone remaining in the area would be at risk. Hezbollah's Al-Manar television subsequently reported Israeli airstrikes on Deir Zahrani.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called on the United States and the international community to intervene in order to halt Israeli attacks. The Israeli army issued its first evacuation notice in Lebanon in a month, cautioning residents near a structure referred to as a Hezbollah facility in Arab Salim to vacate the premises before an impending attack.

This development comes after Lebanon became entangled in the broader Middle East conflict in March when Hezbollah assaulted Israel in support of Iran. In response, Israel launched airstrikes and initiated a ground invasion of Lebanon, which Beirut claims has resulted in over 4,300 casualties. However, the intensity of violence has diminished since a US-Iran memorandum of understanding on the regional conflict in June, and the subsequent Israel-Lebanon framework agreement in July.

Israeli forces are presently operating within a self-proclaimed security zone stretching approximately 10 kilometers deep inside Lebanon along the border.
