India’s Border Villages Get ₹11,639 Crore Development Push, 2,616 Villages To Benefit Under VVP

India's Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) is delivering a major development push to 2,616 border villages along the country's international borders, with a budget of Rs 11,639 crore. The initiative, which is being rolled out in two phases, aims to turn paramilitary outposts into reliable markets for villagers by encouraging forces stationed along the borders to procure daily essentials locally.

This approach seeks to provide a steady market for produce from remote areas, helping to reduce economic isolation that has previously driven people away from frontier regions. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police has been directed to buy items like milk, vegetables, eggs, and grains directly from local communities, while the Border Security Force has also begun the procurement process.

In some areas, such as Arunachal Pradesh, the initiative has already led to an increase in residents returning to their villages. The programme will also focus on revamping schools, hospitals, and colleges in the affected clusters, along with establishing new healthcare facilities. With 455 villages in Arunachal Pradesh, 75 in Himachal Pradesh, 51 in Uttarakhand, 46 in Sikkim, and 35 in Ladakh, the VVP is designed to bring economic opportunities, education, and healthcare to these previously isolated communities.
