Huawei's new ultra-light laptop is genuinely ridiculously slim and slender at just 798g - but Western fans might never get their hands on one

Huawei recently unveiled the MateBook Pro S, an ultra-light laptop weighing in at just 798 grams and measuring a mere 11.9mm at its thickest point. The device, priced at 7,999 yuan in its home country, boasts a 14.2-inch flexible OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 3.1K and a 120Hz refresh rate, along with a 54Wh battery. Powered by Huawei's custom Kirin XE90 processor, which is built on HiSilicon ARM design using SMIC's 7nm node, the laptop offers 23% higher single-core performance, 25% better energy efficiency, and 40% higher NPU throughput compared to the standard Kirin X90.

Interestingly, the manufacturer's claims about performance have not been independently verified, with many details inferred from comparisons using Huawei's own figures or paid advertisements. While competitors such as Japanese manufacturers offer even thinner alternatives, the MateBook Pro S stands out for its impressive display, powerful processor, and long battery life.

Additionally, the laptop offers multiple configurations, including Standard, Soft Light, Privacy, and Collector's Edition, with weights ranging from 798g to 825g. Despite not being available in the West, third-party suppliers are already offering to ship the device to various countries at a higher cost.
