Guiding Light: Literacy Is The Beginning, Not The End Of Education

Education is a powerful tool that can level the playing field, foster peace, and alleviate poverty. It is often seen as the path to happiness, but its true purpose goes beyond simply increasing awareness. The most effective education nourishes virtues within, shaping intelligence and character. Stuffed with information, children's minds need more than just data – they need the right attitude and behavior to guide their future.

Education is the greatest leveler in civilization, offering every child the chance to uncover their potential. Nature has bestowed unique skills in each individual; education's role is to nurture those abilities at home and in the school environment. A skilled educator takes on the responsibility of molding each child, regardless of their starting point. This is why education must reach those who need it most, starting at the grassroots level for the creation of a divine society.

The first free school was established in 1981, witnessing children without access to education in the Ashram. Today, it has evolved into a network of 1,356 schools, providing free, value-based education to over 1,20,000 children in remote areas. The goal extends beyond literacy, aiming to help children discover their inner talents and reach their full potential.

True education incorporates compassion over commerce, with the ultimate purpose of making us more human. Knowledge purifies the mind, love purifies the heart, and seva purifies karma. Literacy is the gateway to knowledge, while true education guides us through that door with awareness, compassion, wisdom, and a sense of belonging to the entire world.
