Gov Lawal Appoints New Emir of Zurmi

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has officially appointed Alhaji Aminu Atiku as the new Emir of Zurmi. The decision was announced on Monday by the Governor's Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, in a statement released in Gusau by Nakwada's media and publicity secretary, Suleiman S/Tudu. The appointment came after discussions with the kingmakers of the Zurmi Emirate Council, in accordance with state laws, customs, and traditions.

Atiku, who previously held the title of Dangaladiman Zurmi, is now the 21st Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi, following the passing of previous Emir Alhaji Bello Suleiman on August 31, 2026. Aminu Atiku is the eldest son of the late Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who served as the 19th Emir of Zurmi and also as the Sole Administrator of the Zurmi Local Government Council.

Governor Lawal congratulated Atiku, encouraging him to carry forth the legacy of his predecessors by fostering peace, justice, unity, and the welfare of the people. The governor emphasized the historical significance of the Zurmi Emirate, dating back centuries to the Alibawa clan, highlighting its contributions to scholarship, justice, and public service.

He challenged the new Emir to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among Zurmi's communities while strengthening cooperation with the state government and security forces to bolster peace and security. Governor Lawal assured Atiku of the government's backing, expressing optimism that the new monarch's reign would foster the prosperity, stability, and advancement of the Zurmi Emirate and the broader Zamfara State.
