Ghana Sports Fund ready to support individual clubs – Deputy Administrator

Lawyer Simon Appiah Junior, Deputy Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, revealed that the organization is ready to directly support individual clubs as part of strengthening the country's sports industry. Speaking on Asempa FM's Ultimate Sports Show, Appiah emphasized that supporting sports federations must include backing the clubs that constitute the backbone of various sporting competitions.

He clarified that supporting federations also means supporting clubs. The amount of financial support would depend on available resources, proposing a structured annual allocation to provide clubs with more financial stability. Appiah stated that if sufficient funds are present, every club could be entitled to a certain amount each year.

The Deputy Administrator also highlighted the need for funding to help federations manage their competitions. He warned that the downfall of clubs could have broader implications for Ghana's sports industry, emphasizing that consistent funding is crucial to maintaining healthy competition. Appiah disclosed that the Sports Fund is exploring partnerships with private investors, including potential collaboration with the betting and gaming sector, to create a steady flow of revenue.

He also mentioned ongoing discussions with the Gaming Commission to explore ways to generate a sustainable income stream. According to Appiah, achieving a sustainable funding model would enable the Sports Fund to provide more consistent support to clubs and federations while bolstering competition across Ghana's sporting sector.
