Five dead, five injured as Amazon Air Cargo plane crashes on runway

Five people died and five others were injured when an Amazon Air Cargo plane crashed while attempting to land at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, according to updated reports. The Boeing 767-300 cargo plane, believed to be originating from San Juan, Puerto Rico, failed to stop on the runway and skidded, colliding with multiple vehicles before coming to a stop near a road outside the airport.

The aircraft, initially thought to be traveling at 209 km/h, erupted into flames following the crash, emitting thick black smoke that could be seen from miles away.

Emergency responders arrived promptly, with firefighters working tirelessly to extinguish the blaze and rescue those trapped. Authorities reported that five individuals lost their lives, and five others were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, with several sustaining critical injuries. The cargo airline 21 Air was operating the plane as a representative of Amazon Air at the time of the incident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Officials have yet to ascertain why the plane lost control and veered off the runway.
