Ex-Felda general manager remanded 5 days over land sale probe

A former Felda general manager, holding a Datuk title, has been remanded for five days to aid investigations into alleged abuse of power connected to a Kuala Lumpur project and the land sale involving the statutory body. The arrest occurred on September 6 at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya, where the former general manager and another man went to provide their statements.

The remand order was granted by magistrate Ezrene Zakaria following MACC's application at the Putrajaya magistrates' court. It is reported that the second individual, who reportedly has health issues, will have his remand application heard at a hospital. The arrests followed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's announcement to investigate Felda's issues after the release of a royal commission of inquiry report into Tabung Haji.

Anwar stated that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, had emphasized that statutory body investigations should not end with Tabung Haji. Last week, MACC initiated seven investigations into alleged irregularities, abuse of power, and corruption within Felda and its subsidiary, Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd.
