Early Emmys ceremony could bring many trophies for 'The Pitt,' 'Hacks' and 'Pluribus'

Top Emmy nominees "The Pitt," "Hacks," "Pluribus," and "Widow's Bay" are set to receive multiple awards at an early ceremony eight days before the main televised event. The Television Academy will distribute over 100 primetime Emmys in two ceremonies at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The initial pair of ceremonies will air on September 12, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, and will be edited together for broadcast on FXX and Hulu the following day. Hargitay, who won two Emmys for her documentary "My Mom Jayne," will join presenters.

Bad Bunny made history by winning his first Emmy for the Super Bowl halftime show, beating out telecasts for the Oscars, Grammys, and Tonys. "The Pitt," HBO Max's medical series, won best drama for its first season, with 25 nominations, and could win up to nine Emmy awards on Sunday. "Hacks," also from HBO Max, received a record-tying 24 comedy nominations for its final season, with the potential for up to a dozen awards Sunday.

Rob Reiner, who passed away in December along with his wife Michele Singer Reiner, may win a posthumous Emmy for guest actor in a comedy for "The Bear," 50 years after his previous Emmy wins. Five-time Emmy winner Michael J. Fox is nominated in the same category for his role in "Shrinking," where he plays a Parkinson's disease patient. The show's star power will be heightened by the Academy moving five categories from the September 14 telecast to Sunday, including best supporting actor and actress in a limited series.

"The Pitt" dominated the drama acting nominations, with two performers up for best guest actor in a drama, and three for best guest actress. Tal Anderson, an autistic advocate, received her first Emmy nomination for "The Pitt." Among the presenters will be Noah Wyle, the show's star, who is nominated for four Emmys at the main ceremony.

Five of the seven best guest actress in a comedy nominees come from "Hacks," including Leslie Bibb and Metcalf, who could win two Emmys. Rookie series "Widow's Bay" and "Pluribus" from Apple TV could make significant impacts at the Emmys with major wins on Sunday.
