Dubai Maritime Authority drives integrated maritime ecosystem

The Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA), part of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), is actively shaping an integrated maritime ecosystem. This initiative aims to enhance navigational safety, streamline maritime services, and elevate the sector's regulatory landscape. The DMA's work aligns with Dubai's burgeoning maritime sector and bolsters the emirate's standing as a top global hub for maritime activities and services.

Recent data reveal the sector's substantial size and variety. There are 8,415 marine crafts registered with the DMA, and over 14,000 maritime companies operate within this industry. The maritime sector has attracted 116 nationalities, with the United Kingdom being the most prominent user base. The sector is backed by advanced infrastructure, including 20 marinas and 4,214 berths, ensuring its ongoing expansion and capacity to meet growing demand for maritime activities and services.

Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the Dubai Maritime Authority, emphasized that ongoing development of the maritime sector is vital to Dubai's efforts to boost the blue economy and bolster its global presence in maritime domains. He stated, "We persist in constructing an integrated maritime ecosystem grounded in the highest norms of regulation and safety, thereby augmenting Dubai's competitiveness and fortifying its status as a foremost global maritime destination.

We are dedicated to delivering an advanced regulatory framework that nurtures every facet of the sector, satisfies the evolving requirements of maritime users, and enhances operations and services in accordance with international benchmarks."

He added, "The sector's growth indicators signify Dubai's escalating allure to customers, investors, and watercraft operators worldwide. They also underscore the sector's robust infrastructure and its ability to accommodate forthcoming expansion, thereby fortifying Dubai's determination to foster a more competitive and sustainable maritime sector."

The DMA oversees the maritime sector within its purview, which spans approximately 72 km of coastline and the emirate's exclusive economic zone. The authority continually refines regulatory frameworks, systems, and services to preserve navigation, escalate operational efficiency, and refine the maritime user experience. Dubai's maritime ecosystem comprises a wide array of watercraft, including motorized pleasure boats, watersports vessels, touristic and commercial ships, marine public transport craft, and floating restaurants, among others.

Motorized pleasure boats constitute the most numerous category, with 3,269 vessels, followed by 2,377 watersports craft, and 1,064 touristic vessels. The registry also encompasses 897 commercial marine craft designated for watersports and 224 marine public transport vessels, in addition to watercraft registered under other maritime categories.

The DMA has registered 87 floating restaurants operating within Dubai's waters, comprising 58 wooden and 29 non-wooden vessels. Altogether, they can accommodate up to 9,600 guests. These floating restaurants primarily operate close to Dubai's premier waterfront locales and maritime landmarks, with the greatest concentrations in Dubai Marina, Dubai Creek, Dubai Harbour, and Al Jaddaf Waterfront.

In collaboration with its governmental and private sector allies, the DMA persists in amplifying Dubai's maritime ecosystem and refining its regulatory and operational services. These endeavors fortify investor and customer trust while bolstering the competitiveness and enduring development of Dubai's maritime economy.
