Congress Dalit legislators condemn BRS MLCs remarks against Telangana Assembly Speaker; demand KCR’s apology

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy called for Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to apologize for derogatory remarks made by the party's MLC against Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and his family. During the monsoon session's opening on September 7, 2026, Reddy emphasized that the Speaker's constitutional position deserved respect, regardless of one's status as Chief Minister or legislator.

Reddy accused the BRS of exhibiting an "anti-Dalit mindset and attitude" and pointed to past promises the opposition had made, including making a Dalit Chief Minister, providing three acres of land to Dalit families, and implementing Dalit Bandhu. He also cited the removal of a Dalit Deputy Chief Minister from the Cabinet and the incident in Nerella, where Dalits were allegedly run over by sand lorries.

Reddy's accusations included BRS allegedly encouraging defections to oust Dalit leaders, specifically Bhatti Vikramarka, from the position of Leader of the Opposition in 2019.

The Chief Minister warned that the government would not remain silent if institutions were intimidated. Reddy demanded an unconditional apology and resignation from the legislator responsible for the remarks, as well as the termination of that member's membership.
