Comeback queen Zheng reaches US Open quarter-finals, Belgian history for Blockx

Zheng Qinwen stunned Iga Swiatek, beating the Pole 3-6, 7-5, 7-5, 7-5 and reach the US Open quarter-finals. This marked the first time a qualifier or lucky loser had beaten Swiatek at a Grand Slam. The Paris Olympics gold medallist and a former world number four now ranked 121st made a remarkable comeback by winning seven games in a row after dropping 5-0 in the first set. Swiatek left the Arthur Ashe Stadium in tears, reportedly attributing her defeat to the fact that coming back from 0-5 is not lucky.

Meanwhile, Alexander Blockx made history for Belgium with a gritty 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory over Francisco Cerundolo. The 21-year-old, who started the year outside the top 100, became the first Belgian man to reach the last eight at the US Open. If he can beat world number two Elena Rybakina in the next round, Blockx could seize the number one ranking from Aryna Sabalenka.
