Bafana squad bonuses should be in their accounts: Zungu

South African Football Association (SAFA) president candidate Sandile Zungu is furious that FIFA World Cup bonuses for Bafana Bafana have not been paid a month after the tournament ended in the Americas. Zungu, who plans to challenge incumbent Danny Jordaan for the presidency at the upcoming SAFA elective conference, has vowed to hold accountable those responsible for the administrative mishap if elected.

"Let me repeat, that money that belongs to Bafana Bafana and technical players must be in the accounts of the deserving people by close of business on the Thursday the 10th, and if it is not, those who are complicit to that injustice will account when I move into the office as president of SAFA, they will consider themselves fired."

Zungu is not the first to criticize SAFA's financial management. Recently, Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton Mackenzie called out the federation for failing to implement the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, despite the Treasury releasing R20 million for the purpose last year. Zungu believes that the implementation of VAR is crucial to ensure fair officiating, especially as the competition intensifies and positions for the top eight and relegation zone become clearer.
