Alibaba Cloud establishes Brazil region with two centres

Alibaba Cloud has expanded its cloud infrastructure presence into Brazil by establishing a new region with two data centres in São Paulo. This move brings Alibaba Cloud services, including computing, storage, and AI-powered tools, directly to businesses, startups, developers, and public institutions within Brazil. The region, designated as sa-east-1 with two availability zones, is designed to provide low latency, resilience, and data control for workloads that require processing and storage within the country.

This expansion marks the second cloud region in Latin America for Alibaba Cloud, following its launch in Mexico in February 2025, and brings the company's global footprint to 106 availability zones across 31 regions. Allen Guo, the general manager for Latin America, highlighted the importance of Brazil as a central market for the company's expansion, emphasizing the region's strategic value due to its regulatory requirements, latency, and resilience needs.

Alibaba Cloud is also set to introduce enterprise-grade agentic AI services in Brazil, aimed at supporting organizations in building, deploying, and operating AI agents. The Brazilian launch is part of Alibaba's broader investment in AI infrastructure, with the company committing 380 billion yuan ($53 billion) over three years to cloud and AI infrastructure.

The São Paulo region is built to meet local regulatory and cybersecurity requirements, although customers are responsible for configuring their compliance arrangements. The expansion into Brazil positions Alibaba Cloud among several major providers already operating in the Latin American market, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle, reflecting the growing demand for infrastructure that supports AI and other intensive workloads in the region.
