13 killed as residents flee 15 Katsina villages

In recent attacks across southern Katsina State, 13 people were killed as residents fled 15 villages. The violence, perpetrated by bandits, disrupted farming and trading activities, leaving residents increasingly fearful of returning to their communities. In Bakori Local Government Area, at least three individuals were killed during an attack on Jargaba and Kandarawa wards on Saturday night.

The attackers reportedly snuck into several settlements, shooting residents and stealing livestock. At Gidan Na Kaura, one person was killed and others suffered gunshot injuries, while livestock was taken. Residents expressed growing fear and concern over the inability to pay ransoms for abducted relatives. In Dandume Local Government Area, 15 deserted villages were reported following renewed attacks by bandits.

A community leader voiced discontent over the continuous attacks on farming communities, which could severely impact food production and family survival. In Funtua, suspected bandits attacked multiple quarters with firearms, causing residents to flee and seek safety. One bandit was killed in a gun battle with security personnel.

In Faskari Local Government Area, bandits loyal to a notorious kingpin attacked Unguwar Miko, killing about five farmers and stealing livestock. Additionally, 13 farmers were abducted from Gidan Alhaji Sule. The attackers also targeted shops and rustled livestock in other communities, engaging security forces in a gun battle on Thursday.
