Youth and Sports Ministry to prioritise grassroots sports development and athlete welfare in Budget 2027

The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has outlined its Budget 2027 priorities, with a strong emphasis on grassroots sports development, youth participation, and athlete welfare. KBS Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari revealed that the framework for the ministry's budget was developed through input gathered during the Madani Youth Budget Tour, which was conducted in six regions across Malaysia.

Although the tour is not yet complete, KBS has already received feedback from youth organizations, sports associations, and unorganized youths. The ministry plans to create more opportunities for public participation in sports, particularly at the grassroots level, to develop a stronger pool of reserve athletes. Additionally, they will prioritize athletes' welfare, including retired athletes and those who have made significant contributions to the nation in the past.

Dr Johari mentioned that KBS will also factor in the concerns of sports associations, youth organizations, and the needs of youths in both rural and urban areas. Furthermore, the ministry plans to hold nationwide tour programs in 2027 to engage with as many young people as possible through large-scale activities and smaller community-based initiatives.
