Wavinya Ndeti raises alarm over external forces targeting Machakos budget

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has expressed alarm over external forces potentially disrupting her county's budget for the 2026/2027 financial year. Speaking on her X account on September 6, 2026, she urged Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to adhere to their constitutional duties and refrain from falling prey to political interference.

The governor highlighted the importance of national and county governments collaborating, while respecting each other's roles, and called for the Assembly to prioritize the needs of Machakos residents. She rejected the initial Ksh17.8 billion budget allocation and returned it to the Assembly, citing concerns over potential disruptions to essential services.

Despite her officers' initial difficulties in delivering the memorandum, Wavinya personally presented it to the Assembly, requesting permission to reduce 50% of the estimated budget to ensure service continuity. The ongoing dispute between the county executive and Assembly has created uncertainty regarding the county's financial plans, emphasizing the need for the MCAs to resolve the impasse while avoiding political pursuits that could hinder service delivery.
