Was anti-govt offer reported to authorities, asks MP

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has questioned whether police have initiated an investigation into allegations that a foreign power offered assistance to the PAS party in 2014 to overthrow the Malaysian government. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang claimed during a recent meeting in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, that the offer was made at a gathering at the US embassy during Barack Obama's visit to Malaysia.

Lim described the claim as serious and urged its supporters, including Hadi and other PAS leaders, to provide evidence. He also asked if the police had opened an inquiry into the matter, emphasizing the need for statements and identification of the American representative mentioned. Jelutong MP RSN Rayer echoed Lim's call for an investigation, stating that the public has a right to know about any discussions at the meeting.

He warned that if the allegations are true, they would constitute a national security and sovereignty issue and questioned why the authorities were not informed about the alleged meeting. Hadi recounted that PAS leaders Takiyuddin Hassan and Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar attended the US embassy meeting, which the US was reportedly willing to support in toppling the government. However, Takiyuddin and Samsuri reportedly rejected the offer.
