Vardy joins Burnley on season-long contract

Former Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy has agreed to a season-long contract with Championship side Burnley. The 39-year-old, who holds the record for the most Premier League goals at Leicester City with 145, left the club in 2025 and recently returned from Cremonese, the Italian side he had joined earlier that year.

Vardy expressed his enthusiasm about joining the club, stating that he is eager to contribute to the team's progress. A 26-cap England international, Vardy scored seven goals for his country during his career. At Leicester, he played for a decade after moving up from non-league Fleetwood Town in 2012, netting 200 goals in all competitions across 500 appearances.

Burnley, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, have struggled in their return to the second tier, failing to secure a win in their last five matches under new manager Nicky Hayden. The club hopes Vardy's leadership and experience will provide a boost to their campaign. Hayden emphasized the value of Vardy's presence, noting his proven track record and looking forward to seeing him represent the Clarets.
