US envoys Witkoff and Kushner hold Ukraine talks after meeting Putin

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Sunday, during their first official visit to Ukraine. Despite the talks, there were no breakthroughs in ending Russia's war in Ukraine. The envoys acknowledged the challenge of finding a solution, as the two nations remain divided over key issues, especially territorial concessions.

Jared Kushner stated that the US is working behind the scenes to create conditions for a possible deal, emphasizing that it is a very difficult problem. The pair arrived in Kyiv by train from Poland after holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the previous day. Putin had declared a three-day ceasefire to ensure the envoys' safety.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy held three rounds of talks with the US envoys, focusing on military aid, including Patriot missile systems and other weapons Ukraine needs. He also expressed gratitude for the presence of European representatives. Momentum for ending the four-and-a-half-year conflict has stalled since recent talks with Putin at the Kremlin in January failed to produce results.
