US carrier Abraham Lincoln departs Thailand after respite visit

The U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln departed Thailand on Sunday following a five-day port visit, concluding a respite from a prolonged deployment that encompassed missions in the Middle East, according to the U.S. Navy. "We extend our gratitude to the Thai people for their exceptional hospitality," stated U.S. Navy Captain Dan Keeler, the commanding officer of the Abraham Lincoln.

Naval deployments usually span six to nine months; however, these durations can be prolonged during periods of conflict. The nuclear-powered Lincoln, housing approximately 5,000 personnel, took part in the U.S. naval blockade and combat operations during the Iran War, and has reportedly set a modern-day record for continuous days at sea, as reported by Democratic lawmakers.

Accompanied by other U.S. naval vessels, the Lincoln arrived in Thailand early on Wednesday, marking the first visit to the nation by a U.S. carrier since the end of World War II. Thai officials indicated that the five-day visit to the only treaty partner of the United States in mainland Southeast Asia would conclude on the day of its departure.

Upon docking, numerous sailors and Marines, dressed in civilian attire and displaying a mix of smiles and waving gestures, began arriving at a hotel in Pattaya, a resort city situated roughly 150 km (93 miles) southeast of Bangkok.
