Tunji-Ojo as Ondo’s New Political Bride

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, at 44, has emerged as a prominent figure in Ondo State politics. His impressive tenure as Minister of Interior has gained national attention, thanks to his remarkable achievements. He streamlined over 200,000 passport applications within three weeks, digitized the renewal process, and released more than 4,000 inmates through fine-clearance schemes.

Tunji-Ojo's ministry also approved promotions for thousands of paramilitary personnel, marking an administrative record that has earned him pride in his home state.

Beyond his federal role, Tunji-Ojo has invested significantly in his home state. He has funded digital technology hubs across all 18 local government areas, donated 14 ambulances to health centers, and provided learning materials to over 120,000 primary school pupils. Furthermore, he has supplied buses to the Council of Traditional Rulers, strengthening his connections with the state's monarchs.

Tunji-Ojo's political journey began in the House of Representatives, where he represented Akoko North East and Akoko North West. In 2023, his constituents voted him back in, electing him in a re-run of the long-standing rotational zoning arrangement. This decision was largely attributed to his visible projects, such as roads, transformers, and job placements for young people.

During the 2024 Ondo governorship election, Tunji-Ojo's home local government overwhelmingly supported the APC (All Progressives Congress), delivering an 81.2% vote share – the highest single block recorded in the state during that election cycle. Poltical insiders also credit Tunji-Ojo with helping stabilize the state's leadership during the constitutional crisis that preceded Lucky Aiyedatiwa's transition into office.

This combination of federal performance, grassroots spending, and electoral weight has turned Tunji-Ojo into a sought-after figure among political actors across Ondo. They want to consult with him, align with him, or simply be seen alongside him.
