‘The Debut’ Explodes at Telluride With Julianne Moore’s Gonzo, Career-Best Turn, Thanks to Bananas, Unlit Cigarettes and a Faux Musical

On Saturday afternoon, talented actor Jesse Eisenberg unveiled his compelling film, "The Debut," at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival in Telluride, Colorado. The world premiere took place at the Palm Theater, a renowned venue for film screenings. The film follows Mona Friedman, portrayed by Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore, who longs to break free from her monotonous life as a New Jersey homemaker.

Mona auditions for a local community theater production of "Nosy Neighbors," a musical she has not performed in since her teenage years. When the role is ultimately given to Serena Cherry, played by Broadway legend Bernadette Peters, Mona's life takes an unexpected turn as she embraces newfound creative freedom and challenges her preconceived notions of identity.

In a post-screening Q&A, Eisenberg's co-star Paul Giamatti shared his astonishment at watching Moore convincingly portray a poor actress, a sentiment echoed by Moore herself, who humbly stated that "anyone could have done this part." The film is a testament to Moore's remarkable acting skills, as she masterfully embodies Mona's emotional intensity, reminiscent of iconic actresses Anne Baxter and J.K.
